Conference Dinner
Friday 5 September
To mark the end of the conference there will be the opportunity to take part in what will be a truly Scottish evening at Murrayfield Stadium. After a Famous Grouse drinks reception, a three course dinner, including wine and coffee will be followed by a ceilidh. For further information see below.
Tickets cost £45.00 per person. A limited number of tickets will be available to purchase at the conference registration desk.
For anyone who has not experienced a ceilidh (pronounced ‘kay-lee’) before, it is a traditional Scottish celebration involving lots of dancing (instruction is provided) and various forms of refreshments. Ceilidhs have something in common with barn dances in that there is a live band and a caller who leads the novice dancers – which is often the majority – through the moves.
Our music will be provided by our outstanding local band The Thunderdogs. It is not possible to be very serious, or to take oneself seriously, during a ceilidh: so embarrassment is out of the question. A ceilidh is the most invigorating way possible of ending a conference and definitely not to be missed. Those who would like to enter fully into the spirit of the thing by hiring traditional highland dress are by no means discouraged from doing so and there are numerous suppliers around the city. This is of course entirely voluntary - there are however a number of senior criminologists whom the organizers would be delighted and intrigued to see in this condition.
Nicolson Highlandwear, the official retailers of the University of Edinburgh's tartan, are offering conference delegates a 15% discount from all hire outfits and a 10% discount on individual sales. Please say you are a delegate at the European Society of Criminology conference in order to be eligible for the discount.
