Concepts of Epidemiology

Raj Bhopal CBE, Professor of Public Health, The University of Edinburgh

Concepts of Epidemiology, Oxford University Press, 2002 (pp317) won first prize in the Public Health section of the prestigious British Medical Association books awards in 2003.

Concepts of Epidemiology new revised edition The BMA summarised the book as follows:

"This is a marvellous intermediate level textbook on epidemiology. It explains (without too much confusing dependence on formulae and methodological detail) and focuses on concepts rather than minutiae. It makes clever use of boxes to encourage the reader to reflect on key ideas before giving a robust and simple explanation.
The other great strength of this superb book is that it brings together different ideas in explanation of the basic ideas of Epidemiology."

The revised 2nd edition of the book (publ August 2008, pp472) was highly commended in the 2009 book awards. A copy of the 2nd edition will be included in the delegate packs of all participants at the course. You can view a sample of the book on the Amazon website.

The author, Professor Raj Bhopal, will be the Course Leader of the third 5-day crash course in Concepts of Epidemiology, which takes place at The University of Edinburgh, 8th - 11th December 2009.
